First, we got Paul Rudd as Ant-Man. Then we got Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, anther Ant-Man. Now it looks like the film by Edgar Wright has landed their female lead. Actress Evangeline Lilly (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Real Steel) is in talks with Marvel currently for a role in the film.
Variety doesn’t have too many specifics on the character Lilly will play, but states that he will most likely be both Pym’s daughter and Scott Lang (Rudd)‘s love interest. This is interesting, as in the comics, Lang’s love interests have never been much of a story point.
However, and this is just speculation on my part, it would makes sense if they reworked the backstory of The Wasp into fitting this role. It would allow the character to be in the film in an expanded capacity without forcing a romantic connection to Pym, as in the comics. It would also give the Marvel Cinematic Universe another strong female hero, something that is currently lacking. we will follow this story, and report on any new developments here.
Ant-Man is due to hit theaters sometime in July 2015.
