Oculus VR, the company behind the much talked about Oculus Rift virtual reality headset (that was recently acquired by Facebook for $2 billion (that’s with a “b”) dollars) just announced the next “step” in VR technology– the feet.
They are calling it the “Stompulous Rift” a game controller controlled entirely by foot movement. Palmer Luckey, the inventor of the Oculus Rift, has been quoted as saying that the Stompulous Rift, “will allow game developers to create the most immersive game experiences imaginable.” So without further ado, here’s the first released photo of Oculus VR’s Stompulous Rift:
This is what they are anticipating the finalized consumer version will look like, but they did also send out an image of their working prototype as well:
They say that they have not actually got the Stompulous Rift shoes functioning with any sort of interactive video game experience, but say that wearing them does significantly increase the jumping height of the end user.
